The 5 Primal Spotting Scope: New from Riton Optics

If you like to hunt big game in the American West you soon realize that quality optics are essential. And not just a good set of binoculars, but at times a spotting scope is just what the doctor ordered. For those occasions where you have a good vantage point and lots of country to look over a spotting scope fits the bill nicely. Enter Riton Optics 5 Primal 15-45x60mm spotting scope, new for 2023.

In New Mexico, elk, mule deer, big horn and barbary sheep, along with pronghorn hunting almost always involves big wide-open country with various cover in the form, canyons, ridgelines, trees, brush or vast plains. Increasingly I spend lots of time glassing these areas and the spotting scope is integral to my hunting approach.

The eye piece on the spotting scope can be angled at any direction

On my desert mule deer hunt this year in southern New Mexico I made extensive use of Riton’s new spotting scope. One feature that I immediately appreciated is the angled eye piece on the Riton that allows you to rotate said eye piece towards you no matter how your positioned. This makes glassing for long periods so much easier.

Designed and engineered with a durable, lightweight aluminum alloy construction and IPX7 waterproof rating, the 5 Primal 15-45×60 Spotting Scope is built tough for all outdoor environments. Weighing at just over 2.5 lbs. with a length of 12.5 inches, this new Riton spotting scope can be easily stored in a day pack to be on hand for those serious glassing sessions in the hunting field.

The Riton Spotting Scope comes with a hard-sided case

At the core of Riton’s new spotting scope are lenses meticulously crafted from Extra-Low Dispersion (ED) glass. The end result is tip of the spear optical clarity and optimum resolution along with minimizing color impact visible to the human eye. The zoom and focusing are an ease with large, rubberized and knurled focus and zoom rings, allowing for pin point adjustments while wearing gloves or bare handed.

The end result of all these features is maximum light transmission and definition when glassing for your quarry even in varied lighting and weather conditions.

The Riton spotting scope played an integral role in my finding a nice mule deer buck on this past Novembers hunt. Using the Riton atop a good vantage point I was able to spot the buck at the upper end of a long desert canyon from about 600 yards out.

This allowed me to plan a stalk from my glassing location and close the distance to about 300 yards. Taking a shot from a prone position the buck fell with a single shot from my Christenson Mesa FFT in .300 Win Mag. The shot was spot on and the deer went down almost in his tracks. The new Biothane Super Sling and Cartridge Pocket Carrier from Skinner Sights and of course the Riton spotting scope made my hunt all the more successful.
